Integrating part of the Ciutat Vella (Old City), Ribera was once its economic centre, around the 13th and 15th century. Wealthy merchants built here great houses, and to honor their powers they constructed the majestic gothic church of Santa Maria del Mar. Today, Ribera is very renowned for its nightlife, mostly turning around the Paseig del Born where you have a lot of bars and restaurants.
